Spokane County precincts that voted against the 2024 election initiative — that would’ve killed the cap-and-trade programs in Washington and cut transit funding across the state — aligned almost exactly with the boundaries of the Spokane Transit Authority’s service area.

If Initiative 2124 passes, it would amend the 2019 WA Cares Act to allow people to opt out of paying, decreasing funding for the entire program. The act established a state long-term care insurance program meant to help people pay for care.
Washington’s current cap-and-trade program isn’t perfect, but if Initiative 2117 passes, not only would the current program die, the state would be prohibited from trying anything similar in the future.
