Do you like bikes? Do you like when there’s new bike infrastructure to make riding safer? Join us October 4th at 2 pm for a fun ride where we’ll tour 11 recent and near-future pieces of infrastructure.
Hosted in partnership with Spokane Reimagined for the Week Without Driving, I (Lauren) will be leading a party-pace, eight-mile ride with 11 stops, where we’ll discuss bike and pedestrian improvements that have recently been built or are soon-to-be-built.
If you enjoyed RANGE’s Urbanism ride during last year’s Bike Everywhere Month, you’re sure to enjoy this ride. Perhaps this time we won’t carry our bikes over sketchy railroad tracks like we did last time, but the adventurous spirit is very much the same. If you happened to miss that ride, but found this article’s title intriguing, you’ll probably enjoy this one too.
First, we’ll meet at 620 W Boone — the parking lot on the north side of Boone, opposite the arena – at 2 pm, where our friends at Spokane Transit Authority will be bringing a bus for us to practice putting our bikes on.
Then we’ll loop around downtown and the lower south hill, stopping to look at shared-use path projects, greenway projects, hardened bike lanes, asphalt art, and more.
Lastly, we’ll end at Uprise Brewing Co, for optional socializing, food and drinks.
Kids are welcome, but we recommend they be on an adult’s bike or in a trailer. We’ll be doing a small bit of climbing up the lower South Hill, but we’ll take it very slow and wait for everyone.
If you’re at all interested in Spokane cycling becoming safer and more comfortable, we’d love to have you!
