The Spokane County Auditor race is not a particularly glitzy position: It’s a basic county services position that includes handling vehicle and marriage licenses, safeguarding county finances, and overseeing elections.
We emailed all three candidates and asked them to give us 200-word-max answers to 10 of our most pressing questions, like, was the 2020 election stolen? What should we do to stop our ballot boxes from getting firebombed? And how do we improve voter turnout?
Two of the three candidates gave us their answers.
Setting the specific questions aside, this was a test of work ethic: which candidates would take time out of their incredibly busy campaign schedule to answer a long list of community questions? And who, given the opportunity to outline some of their policy views, would take it? Finally, given a 200-word limit, who would, like certain unnamed journalists in this town, blow past that restriction and write way too much?
