***After a jam-packed week of public meetings last week, there’s not as much action next week.***

It’s a pretty light week for the Civics newsletter. Between all the action last week, the Halloween holiday, and ace agenda sleuther Valerie Osier attending a journalism conference, we don’t have quite as jam-packed a schedule next week.

Let’s start with the easy one: Don’t expect any tricks or treats from Spokane City Council because they aren’t meeting on Monday. If you have something you really need to get off your chest in public, kick it old-school, snag a milk crate and post up on a street corner.

### Spokane County Board of Commissioners

The board of commissioners are meeting for their regularly scheduled strategic planning session Monday morning. It’s not as exciting as last week’s [emergency declaration](https://www.rangemedia.co/county-commissioners-emergency-clear-camp-hope/) order for Camp Hope, but there is some important business to keep an eye on.

At 9:40 a.m., the county’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) manager is giving an update on how the county is utilizing that funding. This update comes on the heels of a [report from Crosscut this week](https://crosscut.com/news/2022/10/yakima-spokane-counties-forfeit-nearly-2m-federal-rental-aid?ref=rangemedia.co) that discovered the county has lost out on more than $1 million in federal rental assistance. This follows a trend of local municipalities [failing to take advantage of federal funding opportunities](https://www.rangemedia.co/spokane-housing-director-john-hall-nhhs-chhs/).

Tuesday’s regular session is pretty traffic-oriented, but also includes some money coming into the county for emergency services and the approval of a six-year capital improvement plan for the county’s sewer system.
